The New Era for London Waterloo

Waterloo and the South Bank were my stomping grounds for years when I first moved to London. Back then, the bar scene was limited to the likes of Slug & Lettuce, All Bar One, and the Archduke. And inside the station? A sports bar on the mezzanine that was… fine.

Fast-forward to today, and London Waterloo has undergone a huge transformation. The Sidings has turned the station into a destination in its own right, now home to Black Sheep Coffee, Sainsbury’s, Kiehl’s, Nando’s, Wetherspoons and—one of my favourite additions—BrewDog Waterloo.

First Impressions: BrewDog Waterloo Is Enormous

BrewDog Waterloo isn’t just big. It’s massive.1800 capacity apparently. A multi-level, multi-zone social hub that feels like the designers were told: “Create the most fun, chaotic, brilliant meeting place possible.” And they did just that.

Inside, you’ll find:

• A huge central bar

• Glass-fronted booths for private meetings

• Darts

• Bowling alleys

• A giant slide

• An indoor ice-cream van

• A buzzing atrium with endless seating

It’s the kind of place where every visit feels different depending on where you sit.

Meeting a Friend & Settling In

I’m here to meet a dear friend—someone I’ve worked with in London and the Middle East, and last saw in Osaka while he was working at the Expo in 2025. (If you’re planning a Japan trip, I’ve got plenty of reviews coming.)

Convenience aside, BrewDog Waterloo is somewhere I genuinely enjoy eating. The menu leans heavily into American comfort food: mac ’n’ cheese, subs, melts, burgers, pizzas. It’s indulgent, fun, and impossible not to over-order. I love this type of food.

BrewDog Waterloo Menu: Comfort Food Heaven

This is a themed menu. Chuck Norris Burger, Parma Karma Pizza, What the Cluck (vegan) feature on the mains. A strong “Side Hustle” menu includes min mac n’cheese, wedge salade, onion rings and fries. In addition there are brunch options and a kids’ menu (this place is very family-friendly)

I’m not always a fan of QR-code ordering, but here it works. No queues, no waiting at the bar—just tap, order, and food arrives quickly and hot.

Drinks: A Huge Tap List & More

The drinks menu is vast (they boast 60 taps), covering BrewDog’s own beers, guest taps, spirits, cocktails, and soft drinks. I go for a Fever-Tree ginger ale, but the beer list is where Brewdog shines:

• Punk IPA

• Elvis Juice

• Hazy Jane

• Wingman

• Double Hazy Jane (7.2%)

• Executioner (12.6%)

They also serve their own gin, Lone Wolf, which comes in a very cool bottle (you can buy in Sainsbury’s!) and tastes great.

What We Ordered

• Buffalo chicken wings

• Mac ’n’ cheese

• Fries

• Wedge salad

• Chicken tenders

• Cauliflower wings (a must-order)

Everything arrives fresh, hot, and fast. The wings come with a blue cheese dip that deserves its own fan club. This is not the place to come if you’re counting calories. This is the place to come hungry.

Atmosphere: Busy, fun, and full of variety

Brewdog Waterloo is always busy, but in a good way. Expect a mix of:

• After-work drinks

• Families

• Groups bowling or playing darts

• Solo laptop workers

• Dogs (it’s very dog-friendly)

It’s lively and can be ever so slightly chaotic. I once came here and there was a Brewdog AGM on and I saw the Scottish co-founder and former CEO of BrewDog, James Watt there, who served as the face of the company from its launch in 2007 until 2024. He is often liked and unliked but leans towards total respect of where Brewdog has come from.

We finish lunch and I have to dash to another engagement—reluctantly. I could easily have stayed all afternoon sipping cocktails and catching up. Another time. And with all the recent trials and tribulations of the financial state of the Brewdog brand, I hope to return soon and again in the long distant future.

Top Tips for Visiting BrewDog Waterloo

• Be specific about where you’re meeting. This place is huge. If you don’t, you could be doing a few loops trying to find your chums.

• Book ahead, even for drinks.

• Phone signal can be patchy, so jump on the free Wi-Fi.

• Watch the ABV—some beers are deceptively strong. I have been privy to those misjudging this aspect!

• Try Lone Wolf gin if you want to enjoy a decent G&T.
